Columbus Zoo celebrates birth of endangered Masai giraffe

The zoo celebrated the birth of Massai giraffe.

Every birth of endangered species matters. Recently Columbus Zoo has been celebrating the birth of an endangered Massai giraffe.

These third largest animals behind whales and elephants can reach up to 17 feet and 2,700 pounds. Massai giraffes are vulnerable and the population has fallen by nearly 50 percent over the last three decades, caused by habitat loss and poaching.

So this makes the birth of this little giraffe even more important. The newborn’s mom Zuri had three other babies some months before. Unfortunately this time her mate Enzi was euthanized and couldn’t see his baby.
